Holmenkollen Ski Jump

In 2011 a new ski jump opened at Holmenkollen near Oslo, Norway. Traditionally the ski jump at Holmenkollen is one of Norway’s most visited tourist destinations attracting over one million visitors every year.

This graphic proposal covers all aspects of communications including the building’s logo and signage system. This proposal has been developed with JDS Architects, the main architecture office behind the jump’s design.

The most distinctive characteristic of the new jump is the way that the 36 degree slope is effectively sliced off at the top. This was the main inspiration for many of the angled shapes that make up this graphical solution. The red and dark blue colour scheme is taken directly from Norway’s flag and gives the solution the national connection that it needs for its newest sporting arena.

The work was created alongside a functionality study that looked at the signage requirements for a major sporting arena. This means that the solution is not only graphically appropriate for the building but also functionally appropriate as well.

At present this is a work that has been put on hold indefinitely.
